What we’re covering here
- On the stand: Adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who is a central figure in the criminal case against Donald Trump, is being cross-examined by defense attorney Susan Necheles. Daniels has so far testified about how the hush money payment from Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen was negotiated, her alleged sexual encounter with Trump in 2006 and the nondisclosure agreement she entered.
- Daniels was paid $130,000 shortly before the 2016 presidential election to stay quiet about her allegations of an affair with Trump, according to prosecutors. That payment, and how it was reimbursed to Cohen, is at the heart of the charges.
- Trump, who is in the courtroom as Daniels testifies, has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records and denied the affair.
- Earlier, the judge denied a motion for a mistrial from the defense who argued that Daniels’ testimony went too far. Daniels is the prosecution’s 13th witness.
